Annual Kaua‘i Steel Guitar Festival features performances by Hawaiʻi steel guitar masters, plus workshops, demonstrations, kanikapila jam sessions (play-along or listen), and an Open Stage where amateur Hawaiian Steel Guitarists can present their material in half-hour session (reservation required). A vintage steel guitar exhibit will be available throughout the festival. The festival is free to the public; presented by Hawaii Institute for Music Enrichment and Learning Experiences (HIMELE) in association with the Ke Kula Mele Hawai‘i School of Hawaiian Music. 2023 Kaua‘i Steel Guitar Festival
May 4-6, 2023 – Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort – Kapa‘a.
- May 4, 2023. Kickoff Kanikapila jam session in the Sheraton resort’s Crooked Surf Bar featuring festival musicians and NextGen steel guitarists. Festival guests are invited to participate by bringing their favorite instrument and playing along with the musicians — or just listen to and enjoy the music.
- The Sheraton festival will include steel guitar performances by Hawaiian steel guitar masters, workshops, kanikapila jam sessions for play-along or listening enjoyment, and Open Stage sessions where amateur Hawaiian Steel Guitarists present their own programs to festival guests.
- A vintage steel guitar exhibit and hands-on opportunities for festival guests to learn more about and experience the Hawaiian steel guitar are also a part of the festival.
May 7, 2023 – Kukui Grove Center – Līhuʻe
- A ho‘olaule‘a concert will be presented at the Kuku‘i Grove Center and feature performances by Hawaiian steel guitar masters. The concert may be similar to the ho‘olaule‘a concert presented at the Sheraton. The Kuku‘i Grove Center event will also include hands-on opportunities for festival guests.
