Bishop Museum’s newest exhibition, “Corned Beef & Kalo”. For the past 15 years, Ka Papa Loʻi ʻo Kānewai and Ka Papa Loʻi ʻo Punaluʻu have been the hosts of the Mālama Hāloa Kalo Festival, with the mission of educating our lāhui about different Hawaiian kalo varieties and how to care for them. Every year, the event spotlights a ʻohana kalo or a specific Hawaiian taro variety. This year, in conjunction with the opening of Corned Beef & Kalo, Bishop Museum is honored to host the Festival and Symposium for the first time and celebrate the kalo piʻialiʻi and ʻeleʻele mākoko. Given the choice, do people prefer corned beef or kalo? Do we even have a choice? The themes of Corned Beef & Kalo are meant to encourage discussions about these issues. The exhibition runs through September 15, 2024. Bishop Museum is open daily. Admission: GA $33.95; KAMA‘ĀINA $19.95. Discount for seniors (65+), military, youth (4-17). Free for Museums/SNAP members and children 0-3. More info: Corned Beef & Kalo – Bishop Museum
