This is an “anykine lei day” workshop using locally sourced flora and fauna. Students are encouraged to bring in whatever seeds, flowers, nuts, beads, pods, or other local flora that can be strung. Students will prep and organize their flowers and materials, create a design and learn the essential knot tying skill to finish off the lei. Class participants will leave the class with a beautiful handmade one of a kind lei. Students need to bring their own lei needle and a pair or pruners or scissors. Hui Teaching Artist, Caitlyn Madrid will teach students how to prepare to string local flora and fauna, flowers and seeds. Skills learned include needle placement technique, lei making and pattern organization, and the traditional lei kui style of making lei that is a straight pattern or the classic lei style most people learn first. All Levels, Ages 10 year through adult. Discount on classes for members. More info: MAY DAY / LEI DAY WORKSHOP (Adult & ages 10+) – Classes – Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center (huinoeau.com)
