The first Kona Coffee Festival was held in 1970, making it the longest-running food festival in Hawaii. Organizers of the first festival wanted to put Kona coffee in the international spotlight and increase visibility of Hawaiʻi Island as a tourist destination. Today, the coffee festival promotes the Big Island’s unique culture and Kona coffee heritage. The festival includes free and paid activities, such as farm tours, food events, coffee-themed art exhibitions, hands-on cultural activities, a community festival, and more.
