In 2025, celebrate Hōkūleʻa’s 50th birthday as part of the Kualoa/Hakipu‘u Wa‘a (Canoe) Festival on Saturday, March 8, 2025. The event will begin with the Hōkūleʻa 50th Anniversary Commemoration from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by the Kualoa/Hakipu‘u Wa‘a Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early arrival recommended for parking. The Annual Kualoa & Hakipu’u Canoe Fest includes paddling and sailing activities, educational booths, navigation lessons, and ʻono (delicious) food booths. The public is invited to enjoy this immersive Hawaiian cultural experience. Of the many event highlights (weather and safety conditions permitting), attendees can interact with numerous wa‘a (canoes) and the experienced crew from around the Hawaiian Islands. The event is free and open to ocean-goers of all ages. *Hoʻokupu (lei, oli, haʻi ʻōlelo) will be formally received at the Ahu from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM (schools, canoe clubs, hālau, organizations, ʻohana, and individuals are all welcome to participate).
