The Honoka‘a Heritage Center hosts the Sugar Days Festival marking the anniversary of the closing of the last local sugar plantation. The festival celebrates the rich history and lasting legacy of an era and an industry that permanently shaped Honoka‘a and the surrounding Hāmākua region. In addition, the event explores newer agricultural initiatives with promise for the future. Activities for all ages. Most events are FREE.

- Oct 5 from 10AM-2PM at Honoka’a Gym: Recognition of Former Plantation Workers.
- Oct 12 from 10-11AM on Mamane Street: Hāmākua Sugar Days Parade ending at the County Park for the Hāmākua Fair.
- Oct 12 from 11AM-5PM at Honokaa Complex Park: Hāmākua Sugar Days Festival.
- Oct 14-17 (all day): Cultural nights.
- Oct 19 (all day) at Honoka’a People’s Theatre: Public Premiere of Hāmākua Sugar Days Documentary. Ticket required.
