The Waikoloa Dry Forest Recovery project is a native dry forest restoration on 275 acres of land south of Waikoloa Village. The rugged a’a lava* landscape is home to endemic, critically endangered uhiuhi trees and culturally significant wiliwili trees. Guided hikes to learn about the preserve are offered on the First Friday of each month March through October. Tours last about 90 minutes and include walking over uneven terrain in exposed areas. Space is limited, register in advance on their website. ore info: Huaka‘i – Waikoloa Dry Forest Initiative
