Lawai International Center (LIC) in Hanapepe Valley is one of the oldest Buddhist temple sites in the country. The archaeological and cultural treasure was built in 1904 by Japanese immigrants t replicate an ancient pilgrimage of 88 temples in Shikoku, Japan. LIC is the only known site of its kind existing outside of Japan. Volunteers are working to restore the site to its original luster. Join other volunteers the first Saturday of each month from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm to nurture the grounds and plant orchids. Lunches made by the aunties of Lawai will be served. It is not easy to find.
