The Inaugural Foster Botanical Garden Family Sunday Picnic features HT25 artist Brandon Ng, who will guide participants along the curated path of his installation inspired by Queen Lili‘uokalani’s Aloha ʻOe. This poignant work reflects the song’s origin story, composed as the Queen journeyed from Maunawili to Honolulu. Ng’s installation transforms the garden into a sensory experience that intertwines emotion, memory, and the complexities of Aloha ʻOe. The walk-through culminates with a special dance performance by Mareva Minerbi, a performer, choreographer, multimedia artist, and educator born and raised in Mo‘ili‘ili neighborhood of Honolulu. Her performance will interpret and respond to Ng’s work, embodying the layers of love, loss, and renewal found in Aloha ʻOe. Bring your picnic essentials and immerse yourself in this harmonious blend of art and performance set against the lush backdrop of Foster Botanical Garden.
