Attend a screening of ʻĀina Paikai’s short film “Hawaiian Soul” followed by a panel discussion with activists Davianna Pōmaikaʻi McGregor and Lynell DaMate. This narrative is based on the true story of Hawaiian hero, George Jarrett Helm Jr. Against the backdrop of the 1970s native rights movement, the young Hawaiian activist and musician must gain the support of kūpuna (community elders) on the island of Maui to aid in the fight of protecting the precious neighboring island of Kahoʻolawe from military bombing. Additional footage of George Helm will also be shared. Refreshments will be provided.
