Kauaʻi Museum presents “Art of Kapa”, an exhibit from their treasured collection. Ancient Hawaiians developed the art and craft of making fabric from natural fibers. The most well-known is kapa (aka tapa) made from the fibers of the wauke (Broussonetia papyrifera) or paper mulberry, a shrubby tree. The cloth was used for clothing and bedding.
