An extraordinary night Uncle John Kaohelaulii, visiting from Kauaʻi. Learn the rules and game perspectives of Kōnane—a traditional Hawaiian board game similar to Draughts or Checkers but requiring strategic skills as in the games of Chess or Go. Kōnane teaches people critical thinking and how to manage resources. The evening will include a Kōnane workshop and tournament complete with prizes provided by Kōnane Gear. No experience or skill required to play and compete in this friendly competition! Learn more about Uncle John Kaohelauliiʻs mission, which is to put a Kōnane board in every room and integrate in everyday life the lessons learned on the Papamū (game board used in Kōnane). Uncle John will speak on the topics of Kōnane history, historical battles, basic rules, and strategy, as well as tips and tricks for bringing the game back into your daily routine. Bring your friends and family for an exhilarating game night focused on Kōnane! This event is dedicated to Queen Lili‘uokalani in celebration of her birthday and to rekindle our connection to tradition in her honor. Come to watch or come to play. Keiki under 12 are free to spectate. More info: Kōnane & Kūkā with Uncle John Kaohelaulii Tickets, Fri, 1 Sep 2023 at 5:00 PM | Eventbrite
