Join this special program with John R. Sharp, author of “Cartouches: Field Guide and Identification Key: Identify and Read Ancient Egyptian Royal Names”. You will learn how to write simple hieroglyphs and fascinating facts about these symbols. John R. Sharp worked as a linguist and analyst for the U.S. Government for over 40 years, teaching and writing curricula for Modern Standard Arabic and several Arabic dialects. During his studies in Cairo, he became fascinated with Egyptology and the ancient Egyptian language, but was frustrated at not finding a good, searchable index of pharaohs’ cartouches (name rings), so he decided to make one himself, a project that took several decades! He has dedicated his career to making difficult things–the Arabic language, and now ancient Egyptian royal names–easier for the non-specialist. This program is recommended for: upper elementary children grades 4 and up, teens & adults. Registration recommended by calling the library. Walk-ins if space is available.
