Kula born and raised Hawaiʻi State Poet Laureate Brandy Nālani McDougall sees poetry as a way to heal. Brandy Nālani McDougall (Kanaka `Ōiwi, she / her / ’o ia) is the author of the poetry collection “The Salt-Wind: Ka Makani Pa’akai” (2008). She is the Hawai’i Poet Laureate for 2023-2025 and lives with her keiki in Kalaepōhaku in the ahupua’a of Waikīkī, O’ahu. Her second poetry collection, ʻĀina Hānau, Birth Land, will be published in June 2023. Share your own story of Maui with Brandy as she helps participants create their own poems of Makawao.
