Get ready to be transported to a world of captivating and charming nā mele Hawai‘i at the Lili‘uokalani Concert. This highly anticipated event is a celebration of Hawaiian culture and music, paying tribute to the legacy of Queen Lili`uokalani, the beloved monarch and composer who had a profound impact on the Hawaiian music scene. The Queenʻs poetry reflected her deep love for the Hawaiian culture, the islandsʻ natural beauty, and her people. Her verses often conveyed a profound sense of longing, nostalgia, and a strong connection to the land and its traditions. The Queen is celebrated every year at Hokuloa UCC a week before her birthday on September 2nd. She is honored because she was sustained by a vibrant Christian faith that she learned from the missionaries who were also the families who betrayed her. She supported churches that represented all denominations including Kawaiaha`o Church, the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii, and churches throughout her travels on the mainland. Despite being put under house arrest at the ‘Iolani Palace in 1893 and the overthrow of her monarchy, she remained steadfast in her belief in God and prayed for forgiveness of her enemies, a powerful biblical call for reconciliation.
