As we approach the end of 2022, it’s a good time to pause in the middle of the holiday rush, take a moment to reflect on the year, and write a poem about where you call home. For the fourth year in a row, Civil Beat is running the Neighborhood Haiku Poetry Contest and invites you to submit a poem. Adding a twist to a traditional haiku poem, write a poem using the five digits in your zip code to represent the amount of syllables in that line. A zero represents a blank line. Listed below are the instructions in the form of a haiku. Selected poems will be published on Civil Beat, shared on social media and in the Morning Beat newsletter. The contest runs from December 5 to 30. Submit your form via Google Docs or email: Civil Beat Neighborhood Haiku Submission (google.com) and membership@civilbeat.org
